January is Going to be Crazy

There's a feeling in the Pokémon Community:

January is going to be crazy!

And, for good reason: Pokémon is booming, and January's releases are looking better than ever. Specifically:

1. English Pokémon's Prismatic Evolutions, releasing on Jan 17th, and

2. Japanese Pokémon's Battle Partners, releasing on Jan 24th.

And, that's just the beginning of 2025! We still have the Team Rocket set, known as The Glory of Team Rocket in Japan, plus whatever else The Pokémon company has cooking for the rest of the year.

Think about it: how good is 2025's High Class Pack set going to be??

But, all this attention on Pokémon is a double-edged sword:

It's amazing to see so many people share in the hobby we love…

But it's likely to make it a really difficult time to be Pokémon fan.

Product will probably be sold out.

Pre-orders will keep getting more and more expensive.

And, just getting your hands on packs will be either expensive or impossible.

So as we head into 2025, I've been trying to remind myself of the mindset needed to survive 2025:

Patience.

We need to remember that, when the market is crazy, we need to bide our time. Find ways to continue enjoying the hobby, and trust that the market will cool down again, and we'll be able to buy products easily again.

And, based on the Collectibles Hype Cycle theory, the idea that the market is cyclical, this booming market is not the time to be buying: it's the time to sell.

So as products hit their all-time high prices and beyond, it's a good time to sell any investment you've accumulated over the past few years.

Don't worry: we'll rebuild our positions in the future when the market cools down again.

At least, that's how I'm thinking about it.
